One-Off Change in Scenario Conditions

This video shows you how to make a change in your schedule in a Scenario to see the impact it has on the critical path.

A One-Off Change allows you to create changes within your schedules and apply them in a scenario to get an analysis that's more customized to what you would like to see. For example, you can create One-Off Changes to add logic ties, change calendars, and adjust durations.

Create a One-Off Change Scenario Condition:

SmartPM gives you the ability to model data within your schedule files to gain a deeper understanding of your project. Modeling can be done by using Scenarios with Scenario Conditions

  1. Click on the project name from the Company Dashboard to get to the Project Workspace
  2. Select the “Conditions” puzzle piece icon on the right menu bar
  3. Click on “One-Off Change”
    1. Step 1 Schedule: Select the schedule you for which you want to the one-off change to start from and click Next
    2. In the “Rule Name” box, enter the name for your One-Off Change, for example, “Delete Project Duration”
    3. Click on the “Create” button which will take you to the Gantt Chart
    4. Find the activity or item you want to change, click on it 
      1. To delete the activity, click on the activity in the bar chart and select delete. 
      2. To make a logic change, Click on the Logic button below the “Activity Metrics” tab and make any logic changes you want.
      3. To adjust durations, change the calendar, add/delete activity codes, click on the “Attributes” button below the “Activity Metrics” tab and make the changes you want.
    5. In the upper left hand corner of the Gantt Chart click on the “Review One-Off Changes” button which will show you the change you created and click the “Save” button.

Now that you have built this condition or rule, you need to apply it by creating a Scenario.

 

Create a Scenario and Apply the One-Off Change Rule

  1. Click on the project name from the Company Dashboard to get to the Project Workspace
  2. Click on  “Advanced Model” under the Modeling menu on the left side
    1. Step 1 Model Info: In the “Model Name” box, type the name of the Model you are creating and enter a description in the “Model Description” box and click Next.
    2. Step 2 Select Schedule: Click the boxes to the left of the schedules to which you want to apply the One-off Change rule. Make sure that you selected the schedule with the one-off change and click Next.
    3. Step 3 Conditions: Select the box to the left of the One-Off Change condition you just built and click Save.
    4. Click “Close” in the Model Created box that pops up 

SmartPM will start the analysis and you will get an email when the analysis is complete.

 

View the Impact of the Changed Activities on the Critical Path

  1. Click on the project name from the Company Dashboard to get to the Project Dashboard
  2. Click in the Model box in the upper right and click the radio button to the left of the schedule with the one-off change condition modeled and click Select.
  3. Next you can click on the document icon for the Gantt Chart on the right menu bar so you can see if these activities are still on your critical path or if they have been removed from the critical path.
